we wish you a bloggy christmas

It's always nice to see that someone has posted a comment on my blog. It's like getting an unexpected greeting card in the mail or a friendly phone call out of the blue just to say hi. It's always a geeky "Oh goodie!" (told you it was geeky) moment when the number goes up next to "comments" on one's post.

So when the number went up this morning, I assumed it was my friend Jen, with whom I spoke last night while on a frantic shopping excursion in search of an elusive panda Webkinz...but I digress. While on the phone, she informed me that she had just been reading digressions and noted that her son J and my son J own the same brown striped shirt. I assumed it was a comment about the aforementioned shirt or panda, but it was not.

It was from someone named Teri. She gave a polite "Nice Blog" with a :) and wished me a Merry Christmas. Of course, I clicked over to her blog where I understood nothing in the content of her posts, but wished her a similar sentiment, and then clicked on other commenters on her blog who also wished her a Merry Christmas in return to her randomly commenting on their blogs. Now, there are a lot of advertisements and hyperlinks on Teri's blog, and here's my cynical interpretation...in order to get hits on her blog for which she gets some sort of kickback from the places advertising there, she went blog to blog and left a comment in order to have people click on her link.

Or my less cynical side thinks maybe she was just spreading Christmas cheer.
Who knows. At least it gave me something to digress about.

I was wondering who the Teri person was. I too enjoy getting comments on my blog and checking out my "hits". A person from Alaska had searched the words Springsteen and Behind the Stage and found my site! The internet sure has made the world a smaller place. I've had hit from other countries. How fun.

Normally I am way higher up the cynical totem pole than you are, but if she was noting that your kids had the same shirt, it seems like kind of a legitimate comment...who would think to say something so mundane? Even spammers aren't that sneaky. But maybe I'm just too hopped up on eggnog this year to realize how deceptive mommy bloggers really are. :)

i think my post was poorly written because several people misunderstood it-- my digressions rambling too far astray of the topic, I fear. I assumed the new comment on the santa post was from Jen about the shirt, but it was the Terri person just said "nice blog" as a way to lure me to her site.

I understood it. I think because I'm working at the genius level :)
