good grief

What is that weird, sickening, disconcerting feeling I'm feeling?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

literal pulp fiction

It’s never any fun when you discover that a child has wet the bed at 2 a.m. There’s the whole “Play it off like it’s no biggie so you don’t upset the kid, wash them up, bundle up the wet stuff, remake the bed, take the bundle down to the laundry room, and start a load” routine.

Well, it’s even less fun when this happens:

My vision was blurred and my head was fuzzy from lack of sleep when I opened the washing machine door at 3 a.m. to find globs of an unknown substance clinging to the blankets as well as the interior of the (brand new!) machine. It was a pulpy mess that, upon further investigation into the larger globs, revealed remnants of the wide eyes of that “explorador femenino” and her cohort Boots the monkey.

Flashback to six hours earlier - I finish reading a quaint story to my child about a picnic at the park that was almost foiled by a kleptomaniac fox. I place the book on the bed next to us as we talk about our favorite parts of the day. I exit the room.

Yep, I had tossed the dank, smelly pile of bedclothes into the washing machine, and inadvertently rolled up a “Step Into Reading” Dora The Explorer soft covered book inside of the bundle. I should really practice what I preach in the whole, “Put things back where they belong” Dpt.

I can tell you what WASN’T my favorite part of today. Que Lastima!

Textual Note: (That only Nick Jr. viewers will get)

I was going to refer to Dora a “super cool exploradora” because I thought those were the lyrics to the theme song. “She’s a super cool exploradora” I’ve sung it a hundred times. Then I thought, “Is ‘exploradora’ really the Spanish word for female explorer?”

It turns out they’re really saying “Boots is super cool, Explore with Dora”

Huh. I love those “Excuse me while I kiss this guy” moments.

looking up

E's eyes were really on the skies today. First thing this morning she had to grab the camera to photograph this sunrise:

Mid afternoon the heavens opened up with a really cool thunderstorm while it was still sunny. E took A LOT of pictures, and it was hard to capture the rain, but these are my favorites:
