holy storm bat man

We had a bit of a storm last night. This storm caused the children and me (T is out of town) to take shelter in the downstairs bathroom in the pitch dark with only the illumination from my cell phone as our occasional light source.

I did a good job of being as calm and nonchalant as possible. J was more squirrel-y than scared. E is petrified of storms in the first place, so she was really nervous. K thought the whole thing was kind of cool. We were singing songs and telling silly stories to distract ourselves from the sirens and thunder.

All was fine, until there was a lull in conversation and, from the corner of the dark bathroom, came this total horror movie whisper,

"Jeeesus, Jeeeesus, Jeeeesus"

It was, quite frankly, scarier than the storm.
It was E doing some sort of prayer chant.
I was like, "Um, E, are you okay?"
"Yes," she replied, "Just praying. It makes me feel better."

"Praying is good if it makes you feel better, but can you do it in your mind? Because it sounds a little scary."

She totally laughed and was like,
"Oh yeah, I could see how that would be scary."

Then i told a story about a bus load of bizarre animals arriving in downtown Care-a-Lot to move into the Care Bear's new subdivision.

T called to tell us everything was clear just as the lights came back on.

Note to self:
Pack an emergency kit in that bathroom with flashlights, granola bars, bottles of water, and, i guess, a bible?

Yes that was a bit of a storm. M was concerned about things important to her and so brought down a spare change of clothes (none of which were clean) and 3 of her dressy dresses. Justified cleaning up the basement though :)

It did get a little frightening. I had the same thought about making up a kit. I scrambled in the dark for a flashlight, candles, a radio and batteries. For your emergency kit you may want to include a battery operated radio (with some fresh batteries of course). Sounds like you handled things well.
